We started Mixmax to do the impossible with email. Email has barely evolved in the past 25 years, yet it remains our most ubiquitous mode of communication. The emails we send are flat and unproductive. You can’t do anything inside of an email.
Compare this to the evolution of the Web. In the past decade, the Web has matured at an incredible pace: Video-conferencing, “street view” on maps, WebGL, open APIs, and collaborative document editing are all examples of amazing advances that are standard on the web. And yet, email remains static, plain, and un-actionable. Despite its ubiquity and longevity, email is stuck in 1999.
At Mixmax, we’re upgrading email to the 21st century. Today, we’re happy to announce $1.5M in funding from the sharpest minds in communication and productivity: Michael Dearing of Harrison Metal, Mike Maples and Ann Miura-Ko of Floodgate and Ram Shriram of Sherpalo Ventures, followed by notable angels like Eric Ries, Alex Ljung (CEO Soundcloud), Jonathan Abrams (CEO Nuzzel), Matt MacInnis (CEO Inkling), and Eric Wahlforss. You can see the full list on our about page.
Mixmax puts the power of the Web in your email. This includes scheduling meetings, annotating docs, making purchases, confirming orders or completing surveys – all within email. Recipients do not need any plugins or extra software to view or take action in emails sent from Mixmax. And with the Mixmax SDK, developers can easily build apps that work inside of email, turning email into a platform that maximizes both productivity and expressiveness.
Join us in bringing this vision to life. It’s going to be a life-long journey.
